Continuing Education Requirements

Hours Required

24 credit hours are required biennially

Compliance Date

The compliance period begins on April 1st of odd years and ends on March 31st, two years later.

Approved Course Delivery Methods

• Independent self-study online or written courses (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)
• Classroom
• Seminar
• Interactive Online

Exam Requirements

Self-study final exams must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party (i.e. someone who has no family or business relationship with the student.)

Course Subject Requirements

All agents must earn 3 credits categorized as ethics.

Producers licensed for property and casualty have a one-time requirement to take a three-credit course on the NFIP.

An Agent or Producer selling LTC Insurance must complete one, eight (8) hour course specific to long term care, not less than two hours of which shall contain Vermont specific information including Vermont Medicaid information. The Producer must also complete no less than four (4) hours of ongoing training every 24 months ending March 31st of odd-numbered calendar years.

CE credit for Workers' Compensation Adjusters currently requires in-person conference. Beginning April 1, 2024, the Department of Financial Regulation will begin allowing other methods (virtual, other conference, in-person meeting, etc.) of continuing education for Workers' Compensation Adjusters. An 8-credit requirement will be needed per adjuster per cycle.

Carryover Credits

Carryover of excess credits is not permitted.

Course Repetition

Credit will not be given for a course taken more than once in a two-year period.

Exemptions

• Limited lines representative/agents, including title insurance, travel accident & travel baggage insurance
• Newly licensed agents until after their first renewal or renewal eligibility has passed
• Non-residents are exempt if the home state requires CE and the producer submits a filing fee and current letter of certification (within 180 days) indicating compliance.
• P/C Adjusters have no ce requirement


Credit Reporting

Cape will report continuing education credits to SBS within 15 days of course completion. A certificate of completion will be provided for your records.
