Continuing Education Requirements

Delaware Individual and Business Entity Renewals - The Delaware Department of Insurance has announced that license renewal notices will no longer be mailed 90 days prior to the renewal due date. Instead the Department will post renewal notices on their website home page at http://www.delawareinsurance.gov 90 days prior to the renewal date. Licensees are responsible for checking the website to ensure licenses are renewed on time. As a reminder, nonresident individual and business entity licenses renew by February 28 of every odd year. Resident individual and business entity licenses renew by February 28 of every even year.

Hours Required

• 24 credit hours of continuing education must be completed, biennially
• Adjusters are required to complete 12 credit hours of continuing education, biennially

Exam Requirements

Exams are open-book and a passing grade of 70% is required on final exams.

Course Subject Requirements

• All agents must complete 24 hours total.
• All agents must complete 3 hours in ethics.
• Resident producers that hold a health license and solicit long term care policies, must complete at least 3 hours of training in Delaware long term care insurance
• Resident producers that hold a property casualty license and solicit flood policies, must complete at least 2 hours of training in Delaware flood insurance.

Carryover Credits

A maximum of 5 hours may be carried over to the next reporting period. However, carryover credits do not apply to the ethics credit requirement.

Course Repetition

Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a compliance period.

Exemptions

• Individuals who are only licensed for title or public carrier insurance.
• Newly licensed individuals are exempt for the biennium in which the license is issued.
• Individuals continuously licensed for 25 years or more and/or who hold a CPU, CPCU or other professional designation with annual education requirements receive an automatic credit of 12 hours biennially. (These credits will not satisfy the ethics requirement.)

Credit Reporting

CAPE will promptly submit your credit hours to the State Based Systems following course completion.
